Terms of service

Last updated: 6 March 2026

1. Introduction

These Terms govern your access to and use of the services provided by Andreas Laust. By engaging my services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use my services.

2. Services

I provide websites, development, commercial photography, video, audits, and related digital work for product-led brands. Where a project requires specialist input beyond my core skills, I collaborate with trusted specialists. I remain your main point of contact throughout. The specific services, scope, timeline, and cost are agreed in a proposal or statement of work.

3. Project process

My process typically includes discovery, planning, design, development, testing, and launch. I provide regular updates and request feedback at key milestones. Your timely feedback is essential to maintaining momentum and meeting deadlines. For more detail on how I work, see Design Process.

4. Client responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Providing clear requirements and timely feedback
  • Supplying content, images, and materials as agreed
  • Reviewing and approving deliverables within agreed timeframes
  • Ensuring you have rights to all content you provide
  • Making payments according to the agreed schedule

For practical guidance on what I need from you, see Client Responsibilities.

5. Intellectual property

Upon full payment, I assign to you all intellectual property rights in the final deliverables created specifically for your project. I retain ownership of:

  • Pre-existing materials and tools
  • Generic elements not unique to your project
  • Unused or rejected concepts and designs

I reserve the right to display your project in my portfolio unless otherwise agreed in writing. If you require different arrangements (e.g. delayed or limited portfolio use, or complete confidentiality), we agree this before the project begins.

6. Payment terms

Payment terms are specified in my proposal or invoice. Typically I require a deposit before starting, with remaining payments at milestones or on completion. I accept bank transfer or card. Late payments may incur interest and can result in suspension of work.

7. Revisions and scope changes

My proposals include a specified number of revision rounds per deliverable. Revisions are refinements within the original scope. Additional rounds or significant scope changes may incur extra fees and require an updated proposal or change order. Scope changes (new features, pages, or direction changes) are distinct from revisions.

8. Post-launch support

I provide a 30-day period after launch for fixing bugs at no extra cost. Design or functionality changes after launch are treated as new work. I offer maintenance and support packages separately.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, I am not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of profits, revenue, data, use, or goodwill, resulting from:

  • Your use of or inability to use my services
  • Unauthorised access to systems or data used in delivery
  • Interruption or cessation of services
  • Bugs, viruses, or similar technical issues

My total liability for any claim relating to a project shall not exceed the amount paid for that project.

10. Termination

Either party may terminate with written notice if the other materially breaches and fails to remedy within 14 days. If you terminate, you agree to pay for all work performed up to that date, including work in progress.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

12. Contact

If you have questions about these Terms, contact me at legal@andreaslaust.com.

Design process

Last updated: 6 March 2026

How I work

I follow a structured, collaborative process to deliver work that meets your business objectives. I collaborate with trusted specialists where a project requires specialist input, but I remain your main point of contact throughout. This overview outlines my typical process.

1. Discovery

I start by understanding your business, objectives, audience, and requirements. This includes initial consultation, research on your industry and competitors, requirements gathering, and a project plan with milestones and deliverables. Outputs: project brief, sitemap (for websites), and a proposal with scope, timeline, and cost.

2. Strategy

Based on discovery, I develop user personas, user journeys, content strategy, and technical planning. This gives every design decision a clear purpose aligned with your objectives.

3. Design

I create wireframes, visual concepts, and iterate based on your feedback. I develop a design system (typography, colour, components), ensure responsive layouts, and use prototypes for complex interactions. I seek your feedback at key milestones.

4. Development

Once designs are approved, I implement: responsive front-end code, backend or CMS integration where needed, and regular check-ins for feedback. I follow best practices for code quality, performance, and security.

5. Testing

Before launch I test functionality, compatibility across common browsers and devices, performance, and accessibility (WCAG). I address issues before going live.

6. Launch

I plan deployment, run pre-launch checks, handle the technical launch, and verify the live site. I remain available after launch to address any issues.

7. Support and maintenance

I provide training and documentation. I offer maintenance and support packages to keep your project running well. I view client relationships as long-term partnerships.

Throughout, I maintain clear communication: regular updates, scheduled check-ins, and collaborative tools for sharing and feedback.

Intellectual property

Last updated: 6 March 2026

A plain-language guide to IP

This page explains intellectual property in my work. The legal terms are in my Terms of Service; this is a client-friendly summary.

What you receive

On full payment, you receive ownership of the final deliverables created for your project: website designs and code, logos and brand assets, marketing materials, and other agreed outputs. You can use, reproduce, and modify them for your business.

What I retain

I retain ownership of:

  • Preliminary work: sketches, wireframes, unused concepts
  • Tools and processes I use across projects
  • Generic code and design elements not unique to you
  • Materials I created before your project or use for multiple clients

I may reuse these in other work, but never in ways that identify your brand.

Third-party elements

Deliverables may include stock photos, fonts, plugins, or platforms. These have their own licenses. I use only properly licensed elements and will explain any that affect your use. Some may involve ongoing fees (e.g. stock subscriptions).

Portfolio use

Unless we agree otherwise, I may display your project in my portfolio and marketing. I do not share confidential business information. If you need different arrangements (delayed use, anonymity, or no public display), we agree this before starting.

Attribution

I may add a small credit line (e.g. "Website by Andreas Laust") unless you prefer otherwise. You are not required to credit me when using the deliverables.

Client responsibilities

Last updated: 6 March 2026

What I need from you

A smooth project depends on collaboration. Here is what I need from you for work to run efficiently and deliver the best outcome.

Content and assets

I need you to supply, by agreed deadlines:

  • Text: Copy for all pages, headlines, body, calls to action
  • Images and media: High-quality photos, video, illustrations
  • Brand assets: Logos, fonts, colour specs
  • Product or service information
  • Legal text (privacy policy, terms) if required

Delays in content can shift the timeline. If you need help, ask early.

Feedback and approvals

  • Respond within the agreed review windows (typically 3–5 business days for major deliverables)
  • Consolidate feedback from stakeholders into a single set of comments
  • Be specific: "The blue is too bright" helps more than "I don't like the colours"
  • Follow the agreed revision rounds per deliverable
  • Provide formal approval before I move to the next phase

One clear sign-off per phase keeps the project on track.

Technical access

For websites and applications you may need to:

  • Provide hosting access and credentials
  • Set up domains and DNS
  • Create accounts for analytics, payments, email, or other integrations
  • Share access to existing systems if I am working with them

I can help with setup, but it may add time and cost.

Testing before launch

Before we go live, please:

  • Review content for accuracy and consistency
  • Test features on the devices you care about
  • Report issues with clear steps to reproduce

Your review catches things specific to your business.

Project management

  • Designate one main contact on your side
  • Attend scheduled check-ins
  • Respond to messages within a reasonable timeframe
  • Make decisions when they are needed
  • Stick to agreed timelines for your responsibilities

Effective collaboration helps prevent delays and keeps the project on track.

Payments

  • Pay according to the agreed schedule
  • Approve change orders before I implement scope changes
  • Cover third-party costs (stock, fonts, plugins, hosting) as agreed

Prompt payment keeps work moving.

Impact of delays

I understand that circumstances change. Significant delays can extend the timeline, affect my availability, and sometimes add cost. I will flag this early if I see it coming.

AI ethics & usage

Last updated: 6 March 2026

How AI fits into my work

I use artificial intelligence to support my creative process and improve efficiency where it helps. This policy explains how I use AI responsibly and transparently.

1. My approach

I treat AI as a tool that augments my work, not replaces it. All outcomes are directed, reviewed, refined, and delivered by me. AI supports exploration and execution; I remain responsible for strategy, quality, and your project. Where a project needs specialist skills, I collaborate with trusted people when needed.

2. Where AI may assist

I may use AI to assist with:

  • Initial drafts of copy, product descriptions, and similar content
  • Exploring visual concepts and variations
  • Code quality and development efficiency
  • Assisting in the creation or enhancement of visual assets
  • Research and analysis to inform strategy
  • Surfacing accessibility improvements

In every case, I review, refine, and tailor the output. Nothing goes to you without my direct oversight.

3. Transparency

AI tools may be used at various stages of research, drafting, development, and creative exploration. I do not always explicitly disclose each instance of AI assistance.

Regardless of the tools used, I remain responsible for the direction, review, and final delivery of all work. AI is used as a supporting tool rather than a substitute for professional judgement.

4. Quality and oversight

All AI-assisted work goes through my review. I ensure it matches your brand, meets requirements, and meets my standards. I verify accuracy and test technical implementations.

5. Intellectual property and data

As in my standard Terms, you own the final deliverables regardless of AI involvement. I do not use your confidential information to train AI models without permission. I choose AI tools with care for data handling and compliance.

6. Ethics

I aim to identify and reduce bias in AI outputs. I ensure work meets accessibility standards. I use AI to complement my work, not to cut corners on quality or care.

7. Your preferences

If you have concerns or preferences about AI use in your project, discuss them with me at the outset. I can adjust my approach.
